San Antonio, TX – The Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) is proud to announce it has been awarded an $8,000 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation (TBF) to support the delivery of free legal services to older Texans across the Alamo region.

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $28 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably- funded bar foundation. The funding will allow AACOG’s Benefits Counseling Program to expand its legal assistance programs, ensuring Texans aged 60 and older have access to critical legal support.

The TBF grant will empower AACOG to serve approximately 670 to 890 clients, assuming each client receives an average of three to four service units. These free legal consultations will cover a variety of important legal matters to include wills, power of attorney, and other essential legal documents that protect the health, finances, and overall well-being of older Texans.

“AACOG is committed to enhancing the lives of older Texans, and this grant allows us to provide vital legal resources to older adults who may not otherwise have access,” stated William McKnight, Senior Director of Aging and Military Affairs at AACOG. “These services are about more than legal paperwork, they’re about safeguarding dignity, security, and peace of mind for our older community members.”

The program will provide legal services at no cost to older adults enabling them to navigate complex legal systems with ease and confidence. Through this initiative, AACOG continues its mission to support the independence and quality of life of older adults in the Alamo region.
