Compatible Land Use
Compatible Use Programs facilitate communication and collaboration between local military installations and municipal, county and community stakeholders. The Compatible Use Program is focused on several objectives. It promotes compatible civilian development and activities in support of the local military mission. It preserves and protects the public health, safety, and general welfare. Additionally, it enhances the security of installation missions, protects and preserves military readiness, and quality of life. Finally, Compatible Use Programs enhance civilian, and military communications, and collaboration.
The Compatible Use Program is made possible through the support of the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) and AACOG members.
An overview of the JBSA Compatible Use Plan Regional Focus Area can be seen in the map below.
The AACOG Compatible Use Program will deliver a regional plan addressing compatible use with military bases across four counties; Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe and Kendall. The focus areas of study include JBSA -Camp Bullis, JBSA -Lackland, JBSA -Randolph, Kelly Field and Martindale Army Airfield.
The Compatible Use Plan builds upon recommendations and implementation strategies relating to preservation of regional military missions identified in previous Joint Land Use Study efforts for JBSA Camp Bullis (2009), JBSA Lackland AFB (2011) and JBSA Randolph AFB (2015).
Significant changes to the technology, missions and resources of Joint Base San Antonio since 2015 combined with rapid regional growth are the drivers for development of a regional Compatible Use Plan focused on JBSA, surrounding cities, communities and other military facilities in the area. This planning effort will serve in inform regional and urban planning, policy, economic development, energy and infrastructure partnership, and resiliency initiatives.
