About Us

Who We Are

AACOG is a political subdivision of the State of Texas, established in 1967 under Chapter 391 of the Texas Local Government Code. AACOG is a voluntary association of local governments and organizations that serves its members through planning, information, and coordination activities. AACOG serves the Alamo Region/State Planning Region 18, which covers 13 counties and 12,582 square miles in south central Texas. While AACOG is a governmental entity, AACOG does not have authority to tax or to regulate in support of its mission.

The Board of Directors, the governing body of AACOG, made up of representatives of AACOG’s member governments, meets once a month, usually on the fourth Wednesday; however, meetings are convened as needed. The Executive Committee meets quarterly to recommend general policy, review and approve the annual budget, and liaise with human resources. Standing and advisory committees meet on a monthly, bimonthly, quarterly, or annual basis. All meetings are open to the public and accessible to people with disabilities. Resident participation is encouraged at all AACOG meetings, which include the meetings of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and standing and advisory committees.

Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) contributes to effective economic development in America’s communities and regions through a locally-based, regionally-driven economic development planning process. Economic development planning – as implemented through the CEDS – is not only a cornerstone of the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) programs, but successfully serves as a means to engage community leaders, leverage the involvement of the private sector, and establish a strategic blueprint for regional collaboration. The CEDS provides the capacity-building1 foundation by which the public sector, working in conjunction with other economic actors (individuals, firms, industries), creates the environment for regional economic prosperity.
